Day 5: Pamplona to Puente de la Reina

The first thing I said as we left the hotel for dinner was "I wonder of we are going to see any of our friends". Sure enough, our friends sat ten steps away from the front door. They treated us to a phenomenal dinner.

A picture of the front of our hotel. It felt incredible to soak in a hot bath :) This is the one treat we had planned for ourselves along the camino. It was nice to have a big fluffy towel, but its back to drying ourselves with muslin for the next month.

My quick breakfast this morning: Tea, a chocolate muffin, and one celebrex pain pill. Can not thank Dr. Horenstein enough!

Met up with more friends again as we took our first break at a small cafe.

A few miles from Pamplona. This was by far the easiest (and flattest) part of our trip today :/

Airing out our feet in the mountain breeze. Every day we take off our socks and shoes, and switch our socks and liners. Since moisture is what causes the friction that causes blisters, switching into dry socks and airing out our feet helps to prevent blisters. Not a single one so far! Although my feet and toes are looking like sausages.

Made it to the top!

The treacherous descent from the peak. Mom´s knee and my ankle were hurting really badly!

At the bottom we were rewarded with a beautiful view of a wheat field

We finally arrived at the albergue! Shed a few tears of pain and relief as we walked up to the front door. Feeling a little better now, so it´s off to dinner and then bed by nine. Thanks to everybody for reading and for all of your encouragements. It´s sometimes hard to blog even if there is wifi because by the time everything is clean and we´ve eaten we are so tired! Mom has no comment on the picture situation, but I am hoping to get one of her in the near future ;D

  1. Beautiful pictures! I'm glad you made it through another day of hiking with no blisters. You guys must be so proud. Please try to get Mom in some of the pictures. There are some of us who would like to see some mother-daughter pics in your blog.

Gaby we love the pictures and your commentary is terrific, we feel like we are right there with you. I know this is difficult but we are right here waiting for your next post. The girls LOVE all the pictures of the animals you are seeing. Just know that the few days you have done already are more than most people will have done in a lifetime! Gaby tell your Mom to suck it up and get in a picture because I miss her and want to see her. Sending you all our love and strength as you move ahead on the journey! LOL, Julie, Jessa, Sydney and Paul. Glad the celebrex is helping.

  4. You are both doing great. The weeks ahead will get easier as your bodies respond to the effort so hang in there! It won't be long before you are looking back with confidence and strength, and knowing the remaining days will be easy.

It's nice to see you finding comfort in your camino companions! I am sure they feel equally blessed by your friendship.
